The room was updated and clean. It was a pleasant surprise how quiet the hotel was given its location.
the air conditioning didn't work properly.

Desk staff helpful and polite. Quick and easy check in and out. Room rate was good value for SF. The room was one of their larger ones, and reasonably appointed. Good shower pressure. Well serviced by houskeeping.
7th and 6th streets are very near the centre of town but on the wrong side of the tracks. Hotel surrounds are riddled with drug users, drunks and homeless, some sane many not. It is what it is, but many would feel uncomfortable, and some frightened. I was pan-handeled a lot and gave when moved to. So, walk down Mission Street and enter Market Street from 5th or 4th streets. 7th is ok, but 6th from Mission to Market is to be avoided. My room was first floor and street side, very noisy, take earplugs.

The Good Hotel offers excellent bikes which can be used for free. An excellent way to see the city in a different way.

This hotel was ok. The room I had was quite small but adequate for one and it's the only hotel I stayed in with a kettle! The area though seemed to be in the heart of homeless people land which when you're a girl travelling on your own is not good especially when you get followed for two blocks by one asking for a dollar!
The area was unsafe for solo female travellers.

Here's the bottom line
This hotel is basic but clean with nice decor and comfortable beds. Security on site is reassuring in a challenging neighborhood, though the surrounding area's issues with homelessness are noticeable. Staff was helpful, but check-in chaos and hidden fees dampened the experience. All in all, it's a mixed bag worth considering for budget travelers.

The breakfast from the place across the road was absolutely awful and completely over priced.

Location - close to airport and the city
No hotel staff helped us to take suitcases to and from the room - more of a "self-service" place

First of all the Good Hotel looked nothing like the pictures I saw on its website. It is dirty, run down and smells terrible. I had requested a queen bed weeks in advance and was given a room with two doubles in two separate rooms. Not exactly conducive to a romantic birthday trip. I also requested an early check-in and was denied when we arrived, even though it was only 1 hour before standard check-in. We asked if we could at least leave our stuff somewhere because we were had to leave to go to the Giants game and would not be home until well after midnight. They said no and we had to leave our stuff in the car (in a bad neighborhood) and get ready and change in the parking lot for the baseball game. The thing that we were least satisfied was with the check-out process. I signed a bill for $183 for the room, taxes and parking (way too much for this sub par room) but then was charged $258 on my credit card. I called the hotel about the elevated charge and they said the extra charge was for "incidentals" and that it would be taken off if everything in our room was found to be okay. Are you kidding me? My husband and I are professionals in our 30s. It took the Good Hotel 5 days after we checked out to refund the charge. If something was damaged in the room wouldn't the staff notice immediately upon our departure when cleaning the room? Why is it necessary to hold our $75 for 5 days? $75 does certainly not "make or break us" but the practice is ridiculous. Like every other hotel in the world, when a person checks in, the hotel asks for a credit card to keep information on file if damage does happen to occur. I have never heard of a hotel charging the money up front, holding it for nearly a week, and then only refunding the money if you call repeatedly and if there are no "incidentals." I would never stay here again and recommend that you don't either!!!

The hotel had cute amenities, like a sink on the back of the toilet that used grey water from hand-washing to refill the back of the toilet. The hotel was clearly old, but renovated as nicely as possible, and had cute decorations and a convenient layout for two couples to share a room. The chalk wall in the lobby was a nice touch, as well as the wall of photo booth pictures that any guest could add to by stepping into the photo booth in the lobby. Parking was cramped, but extra was available across the street at the Americania.
The hotel was a little more run down than I expected, but I never got the impression that it was uncleanly. For the price and the location, I would say we got the exact value we paid for.
